During the conversation, we discussed the current dynamics of the conflict and the priorities of security assistance in Ukraine.
On October 3, the US and Ukrainian defense ministers discussed the situation on the battlefield and Ukraine’s needs for weapons and military equipment. This was announced by the Assistant to the Speaker of the American Defense Department, Sabrina Singh, reports Ukrinform.
Secretary Austin spoke by phone today with his Ukrainian counterpart, Defense Secretary Umerov, a Pentagon spokesman said.
According to him, they discussed the current dynamics of the conflict and the priorities of assistance to Ukraine in the field of security.
Singh noted that Umerov gave Austin an update on Ukrainian operations, the state of affairs on the battlefield and the need for additional capabilities.
Let’s recall that, according to Austin, the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in February 2022 provided Kyiv with more than $106 billion in security and defense assistance.
As reported, on September 26, the Pentagon announced a new aid package for Ukraine. The United States will transfer arms worth $2.4 billion. Weapons will be purchased from industry rather than provided from stockpiles.
