One of the passengers may have been infected with the Marburg virus. He and his girlfriend were taken to the hospital in an infectious disease van.

In Hamburg, on Wednesday, October 2, the platform of the central station was blocked because one of the passengers was suspected of having the dangerous Marburg virus, reports NDR.

It was learned that the passenger, a German medical student, flew from Rwanda to Frankfurt on Wednesday morning, and from there left by train to Hamburg. Along the way he showed signs of illness.

He then called health authorities to report that he had come into contact with someone infected with the Marburg virus.

The man and his girlfriend were taken to Eppendorf University Hospital in a special ambulance.

A fire brigade spokesman said the other travelers were not in danger.

Marburg virus, also known as green monkey disease, is transmitted through direct close contact with the skin or mucous membranes or through contact with body fluids. It belongs to the same family as Ebola, but is considered more dangerous. The mortality rate, according to the WHO, ranges from 24 to 88%.

Earlier it was reported that deaths from West Nile fever, classified as Group I especially dangerous according to WHO international standards, were recorded in Kyiv.
