The IDF says it intercepted a large number of 180 ballistic missiles launched by Iran at Israel on the evening of October 1.
Israel’s air defenses were “effective”, the IDF says. The US also played a role in defending Israel, both by detecting the Iranian threat and intercepting some missiles, the military said.
The IDF says there are “isolated” strikes in central Israel and several more strikes in southern Israel.
The IAF’s “competence” in the attack was not harmed, and IAF aircraft, air defense and air traffic control were operating normally, the military said.
Iran has suspended flights at Tehran International Airport, Iranian media reported, after it launched a missile attack on Israel, prompting an immediate threat of retaliation.
Currently, we have suspended incoming and outgoing flights at Tehran International Airport,” ISNA news agency quotes airport manager Saeed Chalandari as saying.
While only two people in Israel were reported to have been slightly injured by shrapnel, videos and photographs circulating on social media showed several craters created by impacts from some of the 180 ballistic missiles fired by Iran.
One video shows a large crater in Israel’s Sharon region, allegedly caused by a missile strike.
A large piece of a rocket was photographed in the southern Bedouin city of Tel Sheva.
Palestinians in Ramallah were filmed touching and posing with debris from a ballistic missile that fell on the city.
Jordan’s public security agency says its air defenses intercepted missiles and drones during Iran’s attack on Israel.

The Royal Jordanian Air Force and Air Defense responded to a number of missiles and drones that entered Jordanian airspace, the statement said.
