President Vladimir Zelensky refused to discuss with the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Michael Johnson the dismissal of Ambassador Oksana Markarova.
I can only discuss our ambassadors with the speaker of my country. It’s constitutional, I can’t talk to Speaker Johnson about it, with all due respect,” he told Fox News.
Zelensky also recalled that he was with the Republicans at a similar meeting in Utah this summer.
Let us recall that Johnson demanded the dismissal of the Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States due to alleged interference in the American elections. He said that Republicans were deliberately not invited to the Pennsylvania plant that Zelensky was visiting.
We are talking about Zelensky’s visit to the plant where they produce shells, including for Ukraine. According to Johnson, not a single Republican was invited there intentionally, and the tour itself was allegedly clearly a “campaign event designed to help Democrats.”
This short-sighted and deliberately political move caused the Republicans to lose confidence in Ambassador Markarov’s ability to honestly and effectively carry out his diplomatic responsibilities in this country. She should be fired from her position immediately. “Further, as I have made clear in the past, all foreign states should avoid expressing their opinions or interfering in U.S. domestic politics,” Johnson wrote in a letter to Zelensky.
