For this special day, Princess Theodora chose a white dress by Celia Critarioti with its lace train and floral embellishments. With the crown, he was beaming as he walked down the aisle on the arm of his brother, Prince Pavlos, wearing a navy blue suit with a bright red tie. The couple’s union brought together an impressive line-up of guests, mostly from royal families. In addition to immediate members of the Greek royal family, such as Prince Pavlos, his wife Princess Marie-Chantal and Queen Sofia of Spain, Prince Frederik and Princess Mary of Denmark, cousins of the bride, were welcomed to the ceremony. Prince Nikolaos of Greece, Theodora’s other brother, and his wife Tatiana were also present. Although less publicized than his royal wife, American-born lawyer Matthew Kumar could rely on his family members, particularly his parents, his siblings and close friends.
Marriage postponed several times
The couple’s engagement, which was announced in 2018, attracted a lot of attention. At the time of the announcement, Princess Theodora expressed her excitement, explaining on her social media that she was “delighted at the thought of marrying this extraordinary man.” The wedding, planned for 2020, was finally postponed, first due to the pandemic and then after the death of the former king of the Hellenes in 2023. After this long wait, the couple thus begins a new chapter in their lives.
