Thanks to the dissemination of fake photos of alleged Ukrainian military personnel, the enemy receives a platform for promoting narratives that are dangerous for Ukraine.
Photos of alleged fighters of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, generated by artificial intelligence, are actively distributed on social networks, asking people to congratulate them. The Center for Countering Disinformation explains the dangers of this approach.
“A large number of messages were circulated in the Ukrainian segment of social networks containing photos with clear signs of generation by artificial intelligence of alleged Ukrainian military personnel, with calls to congratulate them on their birthday or marriage animals, children or old people these social networks can be used by Russia in the information war against Ukraine,” said the report.
It is noted that such publications are often distributed by bots, their purpose is to arouse emotions and encourage people to react. Thus, these images receive thousands of interactions from real users, which helps the pages to develop quickly.
In particular, pages with AI images attract a large audience that is not too critical of what they see on the Internet and is susceptible to information manipulation. Thus, the enemy receives a platform for promoting narratives that are dangerous for Ukraine.
The threat of such messages also lies in the fact that they can be used for fraud, as they often contain malicious links disguised, for example, as a petition that needs to be signed, the Center emphasizes.
It was previously reported that, as part of a “conspiracy theory,” Russia intensified narratives about an alleged “schism” within Ukraine.
