Five people who pretended to be actor Brad Pitt and defrauded two fans of 325 thousand euros were arrested in Spain.
Fraudsters using fan pages on social networks convinced women that “Brad Pitt” was promising them a romantic future and forced them to transfer money to non-existent projects, writes The Guardian.
A woman from Andalusia was defrauded of 175,000 euros, another from the Basque Country of 150,000. The suspects were arrested, but only 85,000 euros were returned.
Spanish police said the suspects studied the women’s social media accounts and created psychological profiles of them. Both women were emotionally vulnerable, lonely and depressed, so they believed “Brad Pitt.”
