The woman could not be saved because she sought medical help too late and developed severe complications of fever.
The first death from West Nile fever was recorded in Khmelnitsky. The woman died as a result of a serious complication of fever – meningoencephalitis. This was reported by the press service of the Khmelnytsky Infectious Diseases Hospital on Tuesday, September 24.
Since September 1 of this year, six patients – four men and two women – have been treated at the Khmelnytsky Infectious Diseases Hospital with a confirmed diagnosis of West Nile fever. During hospitalization, all patients complained of a severe increase in body temperature to 39.9 C, headache, pain in the throat, muscles, joints and back, weakness, and nausea.
“After treatment, five patients were discharged with recovery. Doctors could not save one of the patients because of the late seeking of medical help and the development of a serious complication of fever – meningoencephalitis,” the report said.
It was noted that another case of fever was known in a man who was being treated in another hospital in Khmelnitsky.
Four patients were diagnosed with meningoencephalitis, two patients had a febrile-articular form of the disease. The age of sick people is from 20 to 70 years, five of them are city residents.
We remind you that since the beginning of the year, 69 cases of West Nile fever have been recorded in Ukraine, of which 41 cases were confirmed in August.
In Kyiv, 17 people have been hospitalized with West Nile fever since the beginning of summer. Three of them died.
