Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah are on the brink of an all-out war, according to Washington.
The United States will send more troops to the Middle East amid a surge by Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah. This was announced on Monday, September 23, by the press secretary of the Ministry of Defense, Major General Pat Ryder, writes The Hill.
According to him, a new military group was sent to the east “in light of rising tensions in the Middle East.”
“We are sending a small number of additional US military personnel to augment our forces already in the region,” Ryder said.
He declined to give details about the new contingent, although he described it as ground troops.
The US already has several troops stationed in the Middle East, including the carrier strike group USS Abraham Lincoln and the ballistic missile submarine USS Georgia, as well as an additional squadron of F-22 fighter jets. There are six US warships in the eastern Mediterranean, including the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp.
We remind you that on the morning of September 22, the northern region of Israel was attacked from Lebanon. Many air targets were shot down as a result of the air defense, and fires broke out after the shells fell. Hezbollah fighters explained the attack as their “response” to a recent series of explosions of pagers and other communications equipment.
Israel has denied involvement in the mass bombing of pagers belonging to Hezbollah members. Israeli President Isaac Herzog noted that the Lebanese group has many enemies.
