Russia continues to try to cripple Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure, including energy, heat and water supplies, ahead of the winter season.
During his visit to the United States, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky will meet with the heads of major energy companies at the headquarters of Bank of America in New York. The parties will discuss Ukraine’s urgent energy needs caused by the crisis in Ukraine’s energy sector due to the war. Bloomberg wrote this on Monday, September 23.
In particular, Bernard Mensah from Bank of America will take part in the meeting.
“Zelensky met with Mensah before, when the head of the financial institution came to Kyiv earlier this year,” Bloomberg pointed out.
It is known that the group will discuss the issues of repair and protection of the Ukrainian electrical network.
The current available capacity of thermal power plants and combined heat and power plants in Ukraine is less than 20% of their capacity before the start of the full-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation, and part of the available capacity of hydroelectric and pumped storage power plants decreased by 50%.
The Danish government is allocating 130 million Danish kroner (more than 16 million euros) to support Ukraine’s energy system.
The UN predicts that Ukrainians should expect power outages lasting from four to 18 hours per day this winter.
