For Moscow, the “iron curtain” falls between Russia and the West

A”iron curtainIt comes amid an unprecedented diplomatic crisis between Russia and the West over the Ukraine conflict, the head of Russian diplomacy, Sergey Lavrov, said on Thursday.

“The Iron Curtain is, in fact, already coming down”Mr. Lavrov said, repeating the famous phrase of Winston Churchill during a press conference held in Minsk with his Belarusian counterpart, Vladimir Makei. “Those (Westerners) should be careful and not stick their (fingers) in it. The process continues.” he teased.

According to Lavrov, the EU “shows no interest in understanding interests” Russians and their decisions are dictated “By Washington”. The minister appreciated that this week’s NATO summit showed that the United States is willing “All states are subject to their will.” “This iron curtain was raised today by the Westerners themselves”added his Belarusian counterpart.

In 1946, Churchill’s resolution of the iron curtain over Europe showed the division of the European continent between the capitalist countries and the Soviet bloc, which started the Cold War.
