CNN has extended a debate invitation to both candidates because it believes “the American people would benefit from a second debate between the two US presidential candidates.”
US Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday accepted CNN’s invitation to the upcoming Oct. 23 debate and called on Republican opponent Donald Trump to do the same.
Harris’ campaign manager, Jen O’Malley Dillon, said the vice president is “ready for another opportunity to share the stage with Donald Trump” and should have “no problem agreeing” to another debate .
CNN said it extended the debate invitation to both candidates because it believed “the American people would benefit from a second debate between the two US presidential candidates.”
“We look forward to hearing from both campaigns so that the American public can hear more from these candidates before making a final decision,” the network said in a statement.
The rules of the debate are planned to be the same as in the case of Trump and Joe Biden at the end of June. After them, as is known, pressure increased on the current president to refuse re-election, and in the end he withdrew his candidacy.
Trump previously said he would no longer participate in debates with Harris.
According to a CNN poll, 63% of respondents believe Harris won the debate. 37% of Americans believe Trump won the previous debate.
It was also reported that after the debate, Harris increased his lead over Trump to 5%.
