More than 10 Ghanaian citizens were tricked and taken to Russia, where they were forced to sign contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense. Now they are being held in Donetsk and are threatening to send them to war against Ukraine. Astra Telegram channel reported this with reference to Ghanaian media.
It was noted that a group of 14 men left Ghana on August 4, thinking they were going to work in Russia in the fields of agriculture or security. However, arriving in Russia on August 6, they were sent to Kostroma, where they signed “labor contracts.” Later, these contracts turned into agreements on the recruitment of the Russian army to participate in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine.
The men were taken to temporarily occupied Donetsk, where they are still in custody. One of the Ghanaian citizens said they were tricked into signing documents in Russian, without explaining that they were contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense, and their passports were confiscated.
Of the 14 people who left Ghana just over a month ago, the fate of only three is known. The rest disappeared without a trace.
The Ghanaians are asking for help, noting that they have no combat training and want to return to their homeland. The local publication contacted the Russian embassy in Ghana, but has yet to receive a response to the request.
We remind you that, according to the Main Intelligence Directorate, Russia is looking for mercenaries in Somalia, Sierra Leone, Nepal, Syria and Cuba for the war against Ukraine.
Earlier, India returned 45 of its citizens who were illegally forced to join the Russian army and fight in Ukraine.
