Defense Minister Rustem Umerov has begun large-scale personnel purges in the Ministry of Defense.
Two deputy heads of the Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kirill Budanov, have already been dismissed: Viktor Zaitsev and Igor Ostapenko. This was reported on September 20 by Ukrainska Pravda, citing sources in the defense department.
These personnel changes took place almost a week ago and they did not agree with Budanov himself. It is noted that this decision was not Umerov’s initiative.
Another source reported that Umerov plans to fire or has already fired about 20 generals and officials. The reasons for the dismissal are cited as “inefficiency, a Soviet approach and lack of results in work in specific areas.”
Let us recall that on September 5, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed three deputy heads of the Presidential Office from their posts: Mykola Tochytsky, Oleksiy Kuleba and Yulia Sokolovskaya
