The department emphasized that the territorial integrity of Ukraine has never been a subject and cannot be a subject of discussion or compromise. Crimea is Ukraine. Dot.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine ruled out any compromises on the issue of ownership of Crimea. Thus, the department responded to the proposal of Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski to transfer Crimea to a UN mandate to hold a “fair referendum” there within 20 years. The press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry published a corresponding statement on Thursday, September 19.
“The territorial integrity of Ukraine has never been and cannot be a subject for discussion or compromise. The Crimea period on the side of Ukraine is our Defense Forces, partners, the UN Charter and international law,” said of the department.
The Foreign Ministry noted that Crimea is the center of gravity of the European security architecture. Its full restoration is possible only after the complete de-occupation of the entire territory of Ukraine, including the Ukrainian peninsula.
“We expect further strong support from partners to force Russia to return to respect international law and the UN Charter, withdraw its troops and weapons from the entire sovereign territory of Ukraine and restore its territorial integrity , and also hold Russia accountable for its aggression against Ukraine and for all crimes committed,” the ministry added.
They also emphasized that “all efforts should be aimed at quickly achieving these goals, and not satisfy the Kremlin’s appetites in one way or another at the expense of Ukraine’s interests and international law.”
Before this, Radoslaw Sikorski said that Crimea plays a decisive role in the issue of possible peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. Therefore, one of the options for solving the issue of the peninsula could be to transfer it under the mandate of the UN and hold a referendum there within 20 years.
Also earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a video message to the participants of the Crimean Platform summit in Kyiv. He said that Crimea should return to Ukraine in accordance with international law. Here, the Kremlin said it will continue to develop “partnership relations” with Turkey, despite the words of its leader.
