Moscow announced “another act of hybrid war against Lebanon,” in which “innocent people” seem to be suffering.
A wave of pager detonations in Lebanon is leading to an “escalating tension” in a region that is “in an explosive state.” This statement was made by Kremlin Speaker Dmitry Peskov at a briefing on Wednesday, September 18.
“What happened – whatever it is – it certainly leads to an increase in tension and the region itself is in an explosive state, and, of course, such an event, each of them can be a trigger for situation to get out of hand control,” he said.
Peskov called to “deal with this situation.”
“Of course, we believe that a very thorough investigation of this event should be carried out, the causes of the incident, the circumstances of the incident should be determined and those behind the massive explosion of communication equipment should be identified After that, it should be studied by specialists in order to take action to eliminate such dangers here or in other places,” added the Kremlin spokesman.
In turn, the Russian Foreign Ministry “strongly condemned” the mass bombing of pagers in Lebanon.
“We consider the event as another act of hybrid war against Lebanon, where thousands of innocent people have suffered. It seems that the organizers of this high-tech attack deliberately sought to incite of a large-scale armed confrontation, seeking to provoke a major war in the Middle East,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
He stressed that the Russian side “strongly condemns the unprecedented attack on friendly Lebanon and its citizens, which is a grave violation of its sovereignty and a serious challenge to international law using an unconventional weapons.”
Let’s remember that on September 17, pagers used by Hezbollah militants exploded almost simultaneously in different parts of Lebanon. According to the latest data, 11 people died, about four thousand were injured, the condition of 400 victims was assessed as critical.
In turn, Hezbollah vowed “revenge on Israel” for the pager bombings.
