Ukraine has not yet received permission from the United States to strike deep into Russia.
Kyiv tried to convince Washington to allow the Ukrainian Armed Forces to carry out strikes deep into the aggressor country with American weapons. This is important because all allies are looking at the decision of the United States. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this during an interview with journalist Fareed Zakaria on CNN.
Everyone is looking at the decision of the United States. Everyone is waiting for such decisions. After that, a decision is made. That is true. And that is why we really wanted to use these weapons and simply attack military bases with these planes, and not civilian infrastructure, the head of state noted.
Zelensky also confirmed that Ukraine simply wants to be able to attack bases that are used to bomb Ukrainian territory. He emphasized that the enemy drops 4,000 guided air bombs on Ukraine every month. And it is these KABs that have destroyed 80% of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
When Zakaria asked whether Ukraine had permission to carry out deep strikes against Russia, the president answered no.
And in the evening video address, the head of state said that Ukraine has already explained to all partners why it needs sufficient range. Now Kyiv is waiting for the corresponding decisions.
Recall that the day before, The Guardian, citing its own sources, reported that the United States of America and Great Britain had decided to allow the Ukrainian Armed Forces to use long-range Storm Shadow missiles. However, neither Washington nor London are yet ready to announce this officially.
