If action is not taken now, the UK will “appease” the Kremlin, says Ben Wallace.
Five former British defense ministers and a former prime minister have called on current Prime Minister Keir Starmer to give Ukraine permission to use long-range Storm Shadow missiles to strike Russia, even without US support. The Sunday Times reported this on the evening of Saturday, September 14.
So Grant Shepps, Ben Wallace, Gavin Williamson, Penny Mordaunt, Liam Fox and Boris Johnson warned Starmer that any further delay would embolden Vladimir Putin.
Wallace said if the UK did not act now it would be “appeasing” the Kremlin, while Williamson called it a “dereliction of duty” and Boris Johnson added: “There is no reason to delay.”
Starmer reportedly flew to Washington for talks with President Joe Biden on Friday to discuss President Zelensky’s appeal to allow the use of British-made missiles.
British press insiders say the 90-minute conversation at the White House was “very open” about the “choices we face.”
But Biden and his team made it clear they wanted to wait until Zelensky presented his “plan for victory.”
We remind you that The Guardian, citing British officials, reported that the United States and Great Britain have decided to allow Ukraine to use their weapons to strike Russian territory, but not yet would like to officially announce it.
