The Dnieper River is not under threat of pollution from the Seim and Desna, and Kyiv is not under any threat either.
This was noted at the Kyiv City State Administration during a press briefing on September 11 by the Director of the Kyiv City State Administration Department of Municipal Security Roman Tkachuk and the Chairman of the Board – General Director of PJSC Kyivvodokanal Oleh Lysiuk.
Due to pollution of the Seimas and partly the Desna, there is an unpleasant smell.
The authorities plan to get rid of the smell using activated carbon, which will arrive in Ukraine on Friday from partners.
The concentration of pollution in the Dnieper, if it gets there, will be so small that even the treatment facilities will not feel it. For now, Kiev residents have nothing to worry about; in case of danger, there will be a warning 24 hours in advance.
Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Svetlana Grinchuk also assured that the situation is under control.
Enhanced monitoring of water conditions is carried out daily by the State Water Agency and the Water Utility at water intakes and upstream. Pollution is gradually diluted, we are recording this process. I want to assure you that the situation is under control, – noted Grinchuk.
