In the Russian city of Noyabrsk in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, two teenagers, 13 and 14 years old, set fire to a multi-purpose Mi-8 helicopter. This was reported by the Baza Telegram channel on Wednesday, September 11.
The men are said to have entered the helipad at Noyabrsk airport through a hole in the fence. After that, they doused the helicopter with flammable liquid and set it on fire with a cigarette in the second attempt. Due to the explosion of the liquid, one of the men received severe burns on his face.
After escaping from the airport, both were caught within an hour.
“As a result, the children’s faces were burned, so after running a little to the airport, the students called an ambulance, the doctors took the arsonists to the hospital, the helicopter was almost completely burned – only the tail remains, the report said.
In a conversation with law enforcement officials, the teenagers said they were promised 5 million rubles (more than 54 thousand dollars) for burning the helicopter. Some time ago, they burned down a cell phone tower, for which they received 30 thousand rubles (over $300).
It is indicated that the father of one of the boys is now fighting against Ukraine.
The local prosecutor’s office joined the investigation into the helicopter fire.
Earlier in Russia, a court arrested five people accused of setting fire to a helicopter at Ostafyevo airport in New Moscow.
