Secretary of State Antony Blinken said he needed confidence that a strategy to use such weapons would be effective.
US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will discuss the possibility of allowing Ukraine to use long-range Western weapons against targets in the Russian Federation on Friday, September 13. US Secretary of State Antony announced this Blinken at a press conference on Tuesday, September 10, in London.
He emphasized that it is important not only to give Ukrainians such and similar systems, as well as permission to use them, but it is also important to know whether Ukrainians can effectively use these systems, because sometimes it requires thorough preparation.
According to him, confidence is needed that the strategy of using such weapons will be effective.
The official added that these issues are being worked on at various levels. And this will be one of the main goals of the joint visit of the heads of foreign affairs of the United States and Britain to Kyiv to hear from the Ukrainian leadership “how Ukrainians see their needs at this moment.”
In Kyiv, Blinken, along with his British counterpart, will listen more closely to their Ukrainian partners.
“And in the coming days, we will both report on this to the Prime Minister (Starmer – ed.) and to President Biden. In addition, I assume that this will also be discussed at the meeting on Friday,” the US Secretary concluded state.
We remind you that the media reported that the United States does not rule out the transfer of long-range JASSM air-to-surface missiles to Ukraine. They may be included in a weapons package to be announced in the fall.
