The beating of a former serviceman in the city of Smela in the Cherkasy region caused a major scandal.
The conflict arose because of an incident on the road. On the eve of the fight, the parents of a former serviceman were riding in one of the cars, and residents of Smela were riding in the other. The cause of the conflict was that one of the drivers created an emergency situation. The parents told their son about this event and pointed to the car. This was reported by the police of Cherkasy Oblast.
The ex-military decided to deal with the driver himself, but when he arrived at the scene, he did not find this. Therefore, he removed the state license plate from the car and through a social network appealed to eyewitnesses with a call to help him identify the owner of the car.
Subsequently, the Hyundai driver saw this message online. He contacted the veteran and arranged a meeting with him, where the scuffle took place. After the beating, the former soldier refused to be hospitalized. The victim also emphasized that he had no claims against anyone and wrote a counter-statement, in which he asked not to take further action and to stop the consideration of the case.
The police classified the incident under Part 1 of Article 296 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. A pre-trial investigation has also been launched against the police officers who did not intervene in the fight.
Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klimenko wrote on Telegram that everything that happened in Smela will receive an appropriate and tough response from law enforcement officers.
The Chairman of the National Police has already reported on the first results and the official investigation that has begun into the actions (or, rather, possible inaction) of local police officers, Klimenko noted.
The head of the Servant of the People faction, David Arakhamia, also responded to the beating of the ex-soldier, believing that this case should be under the personal control of the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor General.
Recently, a video appeared on the Internet showing a group of unknown people beating up a military man. Information began to spread that the ex-military man was beaten up by a local crime boss.
After this, a video of the soldier’s apology for his parents was circulated on social networks. However, there are bruises on his face, and the veteran’s personal page does not have this video.
Let us recall that in the Zakarpattia region a woman stated that her father was illegally detained by the employees of the TCC and SP. In her appeal to the representative of the ombudsman, she indicated that the man was beaten and this led to his death.
