Sweden will provide Ukraine with a new military aid package worth more than $400 million.
The country’s Minister of Defense, Pal Johnson, announced this on September 9.
It will include Robot System 70 anti-aircraft missile systems, grenade launchers, ammunition, anti-tank weapons and six Combat Boat 90 combat boats.
RBS 70 is a Swedish man-portable short-range air defense missile system manufactured by Saab Bofors Dynamics. This air defense system is command-controlled, the missile is controlled by a laser: a corridor is created behind its beam, along which the missile flies.
The key advantage of this system is its ability to operate effectively in conditions of counteraction with thermal traps or electronic warfare systems. The system is armed with several types of anti-aircraft missiles – Rb 70 Mk.1, Mk.2 and Bolide. The effectiveness of the system depends on their use. In general, its tactical and technical characteristics allow it to hit targets at distances of up to 5,000-8,000 meters and at altitudes of up to 3,000-5,000 meters.
In February 2024, Sweden announced its largest aid package to Ukraine, worth more than €600 million. At that time, it included combat boats, underwater weapons, and the Robot 70 air defense system.
