In Russia, from January 1, 2025, changes to the recommendations for the treatment of adult patients diagnosed with specific personality disorders, including electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in the list of ” recommended method” of treatment. The corresponding initiative was approved by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. Russian media wrote about it on Friday, September 6.

Among the personality disorders eligible for punitive treatment are paranoid, schizoid, dissocial, emotionally unstable, hysterical and anxiety disorders.

According to local media, the demand for drugs for the treatment of mental disorders has increased in Russia. Over the past month, sales of antidepressants rose 43 percent and antipsychotics rose 35 percent compared to the same period in 2021.

In Russia, more than a quarter of participants in the war in Ukraine who sought psychological help had mental illnesses.

It was also reported that in Moscow, a “Wagnerite” killed his partner and cut off his ear.
