The waste found in Siedlce was probably containers of radium. However, tests confirm this.
Radioactive waste was discovered in the village of Siedlec, Greater Poland Voivodeship, in western Poland. This was reported by RMF FM on Friday, September 6.
The trash was discovered by the police. Emergency responders who arrived at the scene found 50 different sources of radioactive waste.
Dozens of firefighters and two specialized environmental and chemical rescue teams are currently on site to analyze all recovered samples.
Residents of the village were not evacuated because the level of radiation did not threaten people.
According to RMF FM, the waste is likely containers containing radium. However, tests confirm this.
Let’s recall that in April, floodwaters in the Kurgan region of the Russian Federation flooded the old uranium wells at the Dobrovolnoye deposit. Water contaminated with uranium probably entered the Tobol River.
