The new head of government replaces Gabriel Attal, who held this position since January of this year.
Newly appointed French Prime Minister Michel Barnier made his first speech. BFMTV reported this on Thursday, September 5.
The politician emphasized that he accepts his new position “with humility” and that he wants to offer a response to “the challenges, anger, suffering, sense of abandonment and injustice that often surrounds our cities, in our neighborhoods and our countryside.”
“We are in a difficult moment. It is important that this new page, this period, is useful to the French and France,” he said.
Barnier assured that in a few days, or at most weeks, he will present legislative initiatives and proposals of the new government to the parliament.
“Now the prime minister is expected to tell the truth, even if the truth is difficult, first of all, about the financial debt, about the “ecological” debt that our European country has on the shoulders of our children but first we have to act, rather than talk, to find solutions that work,” he said.
French President Emmanuel Macron appointed Michel Barnier as prime minister and tasked him with forming a new government.
President Vladimir Zelensky said that to use long-range weapons against military targets on Russian territory, Ukraine needs permission from four countries – the USA, Great Britain, France and Germany.
