The United States is close to an agreement to supply Ukraine with long-range cruise missiles. However, you will have to wait a few months, as the States are sorting out technical issues before any delivery. However, the final decision has not yet been made. Reuters reported this with reference to American officials.
We are talking about air-to-surface missiles (JASSM), which may be included in the weapons package expected to be announced in the fall.
It was noted that sending JASSM to Ukraine could significantly change the strategic landscape of the conflict, since most of Russia is within reach of powerful precision-guided munitions, which poses a problem for the Biden administration.
Military analysts say the JASSMs are stealthy with air defenses and can hit farther than most other missiles Ukraine has. This would complicate Russia’s ability to sustain an offensive and give Ukraine a strategic advantage.
The publication states that the JASSM missile could allow Ukraine to reach targets almost 300 km away on Russian territory, which includes at least 30 air bases, some of which are used by Russia for attack. However, such a missile has so far only been integrated into American-designed aircraft. Ukraine will operate only a few dozen F-16 aircraft, each of which can carry two cruise missiles.
According to an American official, they plan to make the missile compatible with non-Western fighters in Ukraine’s arsenal.
Earlier it was reported that the United States is increasing the production of shells for Ukraine.
