Following the meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Intelligence and Defense, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky ordered an additional special investigation by the SBU bodies of the Chief of Staff of the Unmanned Systems Forces Command, Captain First Rank Roman Gladky.
During the investigation, he will be suspended from performing his official duties.
The DeepState project indicated that Gladkyi was a suspect in the articles on treason, espionage and corruption. In 2018, the media reported that Gladkyi’s wife had Russian citizenship. The StratCom of the Armed Forces of Ukraine assured that the new Chief of Staff of the Unmanned Systems Forces had passed “all necessary checks” for security
On September 3, it became known that the SBU did not check the Chief of Staff of the Unmanned Systems Forces Roman Gladkyi before his appointment. This was reported to “Obshchestvenny” and LIGA.net by the press service of the department.
According to the law, the Chief of Staff of the Unmanned Systems Forces Command is appointed by decree by the Minister of Defense upon the recommendation of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This procedure does not require additional checks or approvals from the SBU.
This is an internal personnel decision of the Armed Forces leadership, the SBU press service emphasized.
On September 2, a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence was held. In particular, the appointment of Gladky was considered there. At this meeting, the commander of the SBS Vadym Sukharevsky assured that no one had put pressure on the Ukrainian Armed Forces to appoint this particular chief.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky noted that he was not against a repeated check of Gladkyi, and emphasized that he had passed all the necessary checks before his appointment and had important experience, among other things, was in the position of deputy commander of the joint forces when he was sent for training to Canada.
The committee insisted on the need for an investigation, in particular to find out whether his wife has a Russian passport and whether it is true that his daughter competed under the flag of the Russian FSB at sports competitions.
Gladkiy has been in office for about a month; he was appointed by order of the Minister of Defense on July 25.
Since July 2016, Gladkiy served as chief of staff and first deputy commander of the Ukrainian Naval Armed Forces. In 2018, he was dismissed due to “improper performance of official duties.” In December 2020, he was appointed deputy chief of staff of the Joint Forces Operation Command.
The Command of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine wrote that Gladkyi had passed all the necessary checks by the Security Service of Ukraine. He is an officer with many years of experience in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has the appropriate military education and significant experience in leadership positions in the Armed Forces.
