Venezuelan President Maduro’s plane was confiscated due to restrictions and violations of export controls and US sanctions.
The United States seized the plane of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in the Dominican Republic after determining that the seizure of the aircraft violated US sanctions and was linked to criminal proceedings. Maduro has used this plane for official visits around the world. CNN writes about this on Monday, September 2, citing official sources.
“The Department of Justice has seized an aircraft that we say was illegally purchased for $13 million through a shell company and smuggled out of the United States for use by Nicolas Maduro and his friends,” the US Attorney General said Merrick Garland.
The department said the plane was purchased in Florida and illegally exported in April 2023 from the United States to Venezuela via the Caribbean.
In this regard, the Venezuelan government criticized the confiscation by the United States of America of the Dassault Falcon 900EX aircraft used by Nicolas Maduro. Caracas considers such actions as “piracy,” Reuters writes.
As you know, on July 29, Maduro was declared the winner of the elections with 51% of the vote, compared to 44% for opposition leader Edmund Gonzalez.
Opposition parties say their candidate won 70% of the vote. Latin American leaders also doubt the integrity of Maduro’s victory. After the announcement of the results of the presidential election, mass protests began in the country.
