The first gold of the 2024 Paralympic Games in athletics was won by the Ukrainian team – 43-year-old Oksana Zubkovska triumphed in the T12 class long jump competition (athletes with visual impairments).

Zubkovskaya took the lead after her first jump of 5.64 m. With her second jump, she increased this figure by 11 cm further, securing the lead in the intermediate standings – 5.75 m. Her jump for gold and a new personal best of the season came in her fifth attempt – 5.78 m.
Second place went to Sara Martinez from Spain – 5.4 m, third place went to Linda Hamri from Algeria (5.3 m).
Zubkovskaya has consistently won gold medals in the long jump at the four previous Paralympics, including setting the current world record in her class at London 2012 with a jump of 6.6m.
For the Ukrainian team, this is the second gold, having already won 20 medals at the 2024 Paralympics.
