Operational pressure from the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region has begun to influence Russian military operations, analysts say.
The aggressor country, Russia, can redeploy a certain number of units from the Pokrovsky direction to the Kursk region. This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in a report on August 31.
“The Russian military command may have redeployed reserve units intended to strengthen Russia’s priority offensive operation in the Pokrovsky direction to protect against the Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region – indicating that the pressure of operations from the Defense Forces in the Kursk region influence Russia’s operations in The Kursk region every sector throughout the battle area,” said the analysis.
Citing Russian sources, it is said that at least one company of the Russian 15th motorized rifle brigade (2 AK, Russian Central Military District) has been redeployed from the direction of Pokrovsk to the Kursk region.
Some Russian and Ukrainian open sources also stated that unspecified units of the 15th Motorized Rifle Brigade were redeployed to the Kursk region. At the same time, its units were involved in the offensive in the direction of Pokrovsky.
In this regard, the OSINT organization Evocation.info said on August 19 that Russia also moved elements of the 1st “Slavyanskaya” motorized rifle brigade (1st Army Corps of the “DPR”) along the direction of Donetsk in the Kursk region. And at the end of July and in August, the ISW recorded statements that parts of this brigade were operating in the direction of Toretsky and Pokrovsky.
The redeployed units are probably reserve units that the Russian military command intends to use to strengthen the group in these areas, to avoid the threat of a premature climax of the conflict, but not to wait for it.
“The decision of the Russian military command to redeploy limited forces in the Kursk region, instead of involving them in the operation to capture Pokrovsk or Toretsk, indicates that it has not completely separated its offensive priorities its operation in the Donetsk region from manpower requirements caused by the Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region,” according to ISW.
However, analysts believe that the redeployment of limited units of the 15th and 1st motorized rifle brigades will not have an immediate effect on the situation on the battlefield in the Pokrovsky or Toretsky directions, as they are relatively small that force.
Earlier, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Alexander Syrsky, said that Ukrainian troops are actively advancing as part of the Kursk operation. Under the control of 100 settlements in the region of the Russian Federation.
At the same time, the Kremlin said today that the answer for Kursk is “already happening.”
