Mercenaries from the Russian private military company “Bears” are leaving the country of Burkina Faso in Africa.
The reason for this “rotation” is military actions in the Kursk region of Russia. Almost a hundred mercenaries arrived in Ouagadougou in May to support the local military junta and its leader Ibrahim Traore. And now they are leaving there to take part in the defense of Kursk region. This was reported by the French newspaper Le Monde.
The fact of the unit’s departure was confirmed to journalists by the commander of the Russian mercenaries, Viktor Yermolayev. The occupier stated that after the events in the Kursk region, “Russian soldiers are forgetting about internal problems and uniting against a common enemy.”
It is noted that on August 27, a message appeared on the unit’s Telegram channel that “in connection with recent events, the brigade is returning to Crimea,” where it is based.
However, an unnamed Western source told reporters that the Bears’ departure from Burkina Faso could also be linked to problems with paying some of the mercenaries.
The article states that the “Bears” deny any connection with the Russian Defense Ministry. However, there is information that some leaders of the Russian Defense Ministry have been in contact with these militants. It is noted that on April 5 last year, Deputy Defense Minister Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, who oversees all of Moscow’s military presence in Africa, personally visited their base camp “Perevalnoye” to convey his support to the “Bears”.
Recall that British intelligence reported that in 2023 the number of private military company “Wagner” was about 50 thousand people. And now there are only about 5 thousand militants. The remnants of the formations are in Belarus and Africa.
