The kidnapping of Ukrainian children was just one of Vladimir Putin’s many crimes, the department said.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry has called on Mongolia to fulfill its obligation under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and arrest Russian leader Vladimir Putin during his visit to the country. This was stated in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, released on Friday, August 30.
Dmitry Kuleba’s department hopes that the Mongolian government is “aware of the fact that Vladimir Putin is a war criminal,” and an arrest warrant for his involvement in the abduction of Ukrainian children has been issued by the ICC, “which jurisdiction is recognized by Mongolia.”
“The kidnapping of Ukrainian children is only one of many crimes for which Putin and the rest of the military-political leadership of the Russian Federation must bring to justice people, murder, rape, robbery, destruction of civilian infrastructure and genocide,” the statement said.
Kyiv called on Ulaanbaatar to “implement a mandatory international arrest warrant” and hand Putin over to the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
The day before it became known that Putin was planning a visit to Mongolia. The trip could be the first for a state party to the ICC’s Rome Statute since it issued an arrest warrant for the Russian dictator in March 2023.
And now it became known that the Kremlin is “not worried” about Putin’s visit to Mongolia. According to media reports, Mongolian authorities will not arrest him.
