In a rare and tragic shark attack in Jamaica, a 16-year-old boy died while speared, losing his head and arm in the attack.
In a tragic incident in Jamaica, a 16-year-old boy was attacked by a shark while spearfishing off the coast of Trelawny. The Telegraph reported it.
The victim of the attack was Jahamari Reed, who had gone out for an early morning hunt and never returned home. A search began immediately, and the next day divers discovered the man’s body, but his head and left arm were missing.
This incident is extremely rare for the island, as only three such shark attacks have been recorded since 1749. Local fishermen who found the body reported seeing a large tiger shark nearby. They tried to kill him, but they couldn’t.
Fritz Christie, head of the local fishing association, said it was the first time in Jamaica’s recent history that a shark had killed a person in local waters. He thinks the shark may have entered the bay following a cruise ship and stayed in the area.
Jahamari’s mother said that her son was interested in spearfishing since childhood, but his father always tried to dissuade him from it. The tragedy shocked the local community, which now wants to find and neutralize the dangerous shark.
It was previously reported that Brazilian scientists discovered cocaine in a sharpnose shark caught on a beach in Rio de Janeiro.
