Iran continues to expand its stockpile of uranium, which is mostly suitable for weapons production, the agency points out.
Iran, contrary to international demands, has once again increased its uranium reserves, enriched to almost weapons-grade levels. The Associated Press reported this on Thursday, August 29, citing a confidential report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Experts say that Iran has 164.7 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60%. This is an increase of 22.6 kilograms since the IAEA’s initial report in May.
Iran’s total reserves of enriched uranium are 5,751.8 kg.
“Uranium enriched to 60% purity is only a short technical step from the weapons level of 90%. According to the IAEA, about 42 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60% would make it possible to create an atomic bomb if the material is more than 90% enriched,” – indicated the experts.
Iran is “weeks rather than months” from having enough enriched uranium to build an atomic bomb. This is what the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi said.
Earlier, the media reported that Iran’s nuclear program was military-oriented. Information from the intelligence services of the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany and Denmark indicates that Tehran has plans to create nuclear weapons.
