A citizen of the Republic of Belarus came out to protest with his mother in 2020, but in the end they were forced to seek asylum abroad.
Sweden has deported two people to Belarus who took part in protests against fraud in the 2020 elections. One of them was immediately arrested. This was reported by Swedish radio Ekot.
A citizen of Belarus came to Sweden with his mother two years ago and sought asylum there. In 2020, they took part in mass protests against Lukashenko. He warned the Swedish authorities that criminal proceedings had been opened against them at home and that they faced imprisonment for political reasons. However, their asylum claims were rejected last year and they were allegedly deported to Belarus last week.
According to their relatives, the man was probably arrested at the border itself and was reportedly taken to a pre-trial detention center in Minsk.
Lawyer Stefan Krstic, who represents some Belarusian asylum seekers in Sweden, said that the Swedish Migration Agency recently assessed their reasons for asylum based on outdated information that did not take into account the events of 2020 and subsequent crackdowns.
The Swedish Migration Agency refused to comment in detail on the reasons for the incident, saying that they were aware of the case and that the agency had been criticized for its actions.
We remind you that the self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko released 10 political prisoners of Belarus.
