The Defense Forces launched their first strike against the Russian military on August 24 using a Palyanitsa drone missile.
The domestic missile-drone Palyanitsa costs less than a million dollars, but Ukraine continues to work to reduce the cost of the weapons. This was announced on Tuesday, August 27, by the Minister of Digital Transformation Mikhail Fedorov in a commentary to the Associated Press.
He said, the military turned to the private sector to further reduce production costs.
“The private market is developing solutions incredibly quickly,” explained the minister.
Fedorov added that this year private companies have become the main supplier of drones for the Ukrainian army, including those currently conducting strikes on Russian territory, and submarines that have repeatedly struck the Russian Black Sea Fleet .
“All kinds of missiles are available in Ukraine. If we have such weapons, we will be more independent and confident,” he said, adding that he believed Russia’s sheer size could also be a “weak spot.”
“I think the Palyanitsa drone missile will change the rules of the game, because we will be able to strike where Russia doesn’t expect it now,” Fedorov said.
In addition, Fedorov told AP that Ukraine will have all kinds of missiles.
As one of the specialists who participated in the creation of Palyanitsa anonymously added to journalists, this is not a continuation of the Soviet project, but a completely new development from scratch, which began about 18 months ago.
According to an unnamed specialist, the rocket has a solid rocket booster that accelerates it, and then the jet engine fires.
The president also announced “very long-range” missiles. According to Zelensky, Ukraine’s missile program has good dynamics. Over time, our state must achieve “maximum self-defense independence.”
