Warehouses in Turkey store S-400 air defense systems worth $2.5 billion, bought from the Russian Federation, the acquisition of which has caused a crisis in relations with the United States.
Turkey, during negotiations on the return to the supply program of the latest F-35 fighter, suggested that the United States “mothball” the previously acquired Russian S-400 air defense system and allow the Americans to be tested. This was reported by the Cumhuriyet publication, citing a source.
“Turkey, which is a member of NATO, wants to receive from its ally the United States a squadron of F-35 and an F-35B and submitted a proposal regarding the S-400 air defense system made by Russia: “Let’s put in the boxes and you can check them,” it said.
It was noted that warehouses in Turkey store the S-400 air defense system worth $2.5 billion, which was purchased from the Russian Federation, and its acquisition caused a crisis in relations with the United States.
According to the source, Turkey is proposing ways to resolve the S-400 issue, which is a condition for the United States to return the country to the program for the production and procurement of new generation F-35 fighters.
As you know, the United States suspended the delivery of F-35 fighters, introducing sanctions against Turkey in 2019 for its acquisition of the S-400 air and missile defense system from Russia. Since then, six F-35A combat aircraft produced for Turkey have been stored in warehouses the average cost of one such aircraft is about $130 million.
