On August 26, the Russian army attacked the Kyiv hydroelectric power station.
A video of the aftermath of an attack on the Kyiv hydroelectric power station near the city of Vyshgorod has gone viral online. The footage shows fire and destruction. The Bukvy publication reported on the attacks.
This information was quickly picked up by Russian propaganda. However, the Center for Countering Disinformation assured that there was no threat of the dam breaking.
There are no threats regarding the Kyiv hydroelectric power station dam. It is impossible to destroy it with missiles. It is not worth comparing with the Kherson region – there was an explosion from the inside. The Russians are using this topic for informational purposes to whip up panic, nothing more, – Andriy Kovalenko, head of the National Security and Defense Council’s Center for Countering Disinformation, wrote in Telegram.
According to publicly available information, the capacity of the Kyiv hydroelectric power station is 440 MW. The length of the protective structures is 70 km, and the greatest height of the dam is 22 m.
The Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported damage to two energy facilities in the region.
Let us recall that on August 26, the Russians launched more than 100 missiles of various types and about 100 Shahed-type attack UAVs at Ukraine. The enemy targeted energy infrastructure in 15 regions. In a number of regions, hits were recorded, and people were killed and wounded. Both civilian and critical infrastructure was damaged.
Due to the Russian attack, power engineers were forced to introduce emergency and emergency power outages.
