The President thanked the Chancellor for significant comprehensive assistance to Ukraine, especially in strengthening its defense capabilities.
Vladimir Zelensky spoke by phone with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day. The press service of the Ukrainian leader reported this on Saturday, June 24.
“Thanks to the two and a half years of German leadership. It is important to have reliable friends who will be with us until a just and lasting peace is restored,” the president said, citing Germany’s defense support.
Zelensky briefed Scholz on the situation on the front line and the current needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including armored vehicles and air defense systems.
The leaders also coordinated cooperation and additional contacts within the framework of Ramstein, discussed the continuation of funding for defense support to Ukraine and the use of frozen assets of the Russian Federation for the needs of our state.
Further steps to implement the agreements at the first peace summit in Switzerland were also discussed.
We remind you that a political scandal has arisen in Germany over plans to cut aid to Ukraine. Such intentions of the government against the backdrop of the offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region were criticized by various German political forces.
After that, Scholz assured that Germany remains “the biggest fan of Ukraine in Europe.”
