Ukraine has created a strategic dilemma for Putin: suspend the offensive in the Donetsk region, or recognize Ukraine’s presence on the territory of the Kursk region.
The Kremlin has decided to ignore the scale of the problem that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are creating with its operation in the Kursk region. This is what the deputy commander of the Intelligence Center of the Estonian Defense Forces, Lieutenant Colonel Janek Kesselmann, said, the Estonian publication ERR reports on Friday, August 23.
“At the moment, the strategic initiative still remains in the hands of Ukraine thanks to the unprecedented successful operation in the Kursk region. As we know, approximately 900-1300 square kilometers of the territory of the Kursk region are in under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” said Janek Kesselmann at a Ministry of Defense press conference.
He noted that the destruction of the bridges across the Seim River presented the Russian troops with a difficult problem: either to withdraw the units that could be surrounded, which would allow Ukraine to control this territory, or spend resources on restoring communication routes.
According to him, both problems are “difficult, and neither solution is likely to be easy for the Russian Federation.”
Kesselmann noted that Russian units were forming a line of defense in the direction of Rylsk-Lgov-Kursk.
“Obviously, there is no point for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to advance in this direction, because the strategic dilemma facing Russia at the moment has already been created, that is, they have to stop the offensive in the Donetsk region, or recognize the existence of Ukraine on the territory of the Kursk region,” – said an Estonian intelligence official.
In addition, Kesselmann emphasized that the operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces forced Russia to attract conscripts, although at the beginning of a full-scale war the Russian Federation rejected such a possibility. Many have been caught, but the Russian media ignores this information.
