Currently, Zaporizhzhya NPP is connected to the Ukrainian energy system through only one power transmission line – 750 kV Dneprovsk.
Russian aggressors destroyed one of the two power lines supplying the temporarily occupied Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. The station is on the verge of blackout, Energoatom reported on Friday, August 23.
So, on Thursday, August 22, due to Russian shelling, the external overhead line of 330 kV Zaporizhzhya Thermal Power Plant – Ferrosplavnaya was damaged. With this, the temporarily occupied Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant received power from the Ukrainian energy system to meet its needs.
Currently, Zaporizhzhya NPP is connected to the Ukrainian energy system through only one power transmission line – 750 kV Dneprovsk.
Energoatom said that if it were damaged, an emergency situation would arise due to the loss of external power to the pumps that cool the reactor cores and fuel storage pools at the Zaporozhye NPP.
Energy workers emphasize that under the “control” of the Russian occupiers it is impossible to ensure problem-free operation of the station.
As you know, since March 4, 2022, the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant is under Russian occupation. The conquerors inherited the territory of the station and stationed their military there. Since then, Zaporizhzhya NPP has experienced eight complete blackouts and one partial one – with the launch of emergency diesel generators and security systems. Their failure can lead to an emergency.
Also, the invaders repeatedly made provocations on the territory of Zaporizhia NPP. Recently, a huge fire broke out at the station. The possible causes of the fire are considered Russian negligence or deliberate arson.
