IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi wants to visit the Kursk nuclear power plant in Russia and then travel to Kyiv.
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi plans to visit the Kursk nuclear power plant next week. The IAEA press service reported this on Thursday, August 22.
As noted by the organization, the Russians reported that the remains of a drone were allegedly discovered on the territory of the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant. Its fragments were reportedly found about 100 meters from the spent nuclear fuel storage facility.
“Grossi therefore decided to personally assess the situation at the station during a visit next week,” the statement said.
During the visit, the head of the IAEA will review the situation on the ground and discuss the modalities of additional activities that may be necessary to assess the conditions of nuclear safety and security of the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant.
“Military activities near a nuclear power plant pose a serious risk to nuclear security. My visit to the plant next week will give us timely access to independently assess the situation,” Grossi said.
Earlier, the IAEA said the nuclear safety situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant had worsened after a drone strike nearby.
