On the night of Wednesday, August 21, five regions of the Russian Federation, including the capital, Moscow, were attacked by drones.

The Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate carried out drone attacks on a radio intelligence center and an airport near Moscow and a Russian airbase in the Rostov region. On Wednesday, August 21, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Kirill Budanov, told The War Zone.

“We carried out several operations using drones,” said the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate.

He added that the reconnaissance had carried out drone strikes on Moscow’s Ostafyevo airport and Millerovo airbase in the Rostov region. In total, about 50 drones were involved, Budanov told the publication.

The extent of the damage is currently unknown.

“Right now, we’re checking,” replied the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate.

The publication states that the Ostafyevo airport is used by the Russian Ministry of Defense. As of 2018, several large circular antenna arrays have been built there, making the site part of a strategic signal and/or communications mission.

Budanov also said that a drone attack on August 16 at the Russian Savasleika airfield in the Nizhny Novgorod region led to the destruction of a MiG-31 Foxhound interceptor, carrying Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles, and two Il-76 Candid transport aircraft.

We remind you that Ukrainian drones attacked a military airport in Borisoglebsk, Voronezh region, and the hangars were destroyed.

It was also reported that a fire broke out at an oil depot in the Rostov region of the Russian Federation due to a drone attack.
