Zelensky emphasized that the educational, cultural and informational needs of Ukrainians in other countries require more activity from the state.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said an institute would be created in Ukraine that would unite Ukrainians abroad and help counter Russian narratives. He said this at a meeting of heads of foreign diplomatic institutions of Ukraine, the Office of the President reports.
“With the usual work through the system of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, we discussed it with the Prime Minister, we are preparing the launch of a new institution that will ensure sufficient strength for the international unity of our citizens in other countries, their connections and relations with Ukraine, the protection of our common interests as a nation – all this will be the responsibility of the new institution, in fact, it should be the Ministry of Ukrainian unity and countering Russian influence to Ukrainians, first of all, abroad,” Zelensky noted.
The head of state emphasized that the educational, cultural and informational needs of Ukrainians in other countries require more activity from the state. According to him, this is a fundamentally new task for Ukraine, related to the number of compatriots abroad, and the system of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs alone cannot cope with it.
“We need an institution that will lead other state institutions towards certain goals.
He added that the state should modernize its institutions so that they meet the modern task of uniting all Ukrainians throughout Ukraine, around protecting Ukraine and strengthening its position in the world.
“I believe that for this we need to strengthen our institutional presence in partner countries. This will be done in two ways , the Czech Republic, Slovakia , France In one place – additionally, in one place – for the first time in history, but it is very important – where there is a presence of Ukrainians, where Ukrainian communities need more attention,” Zelensky said.
It was previously reported that Ukraine, together with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, is launching the Ukraine is Home platform. It will help Ukrainians abroad who want to return to their homeland and need help.
