The Cabinet of Ministers supported the ban on the use of Russian websites and programs.
On Friday, August 16, the government supported a draft law that proposes to define new types of sectoral sanctions in the Ukrainian law “On Sanctions”. It is proposed to ban the use of software and websites of countries against which Ukraine has imposed sanctions. First of all, this concerns Russia. This was reported by the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Mykhailo Fedorov, and the government press service.
It is noted that the software that is banned is the following:
- individuals or companies from sanctioned countries;
- a company in which a share of the authorized capital is owned by a sanctioned state;
- companies that are under the control of foreign companies or individuals engaged in terrorist activities;
- using the source or object code of other sanctioned products;
- persons subject to sanctions, regardless of their country of origin.
Lawmakers also propose blocking access to websites owned by people or organizations under sanctions.
Ukraine began blocking Russian services en masse back in 2018. At that time, the Yandex search engine, VKontakte and Odnoklassniki social networks were subject to sanctions. The use of Russian-made software was also banned.
Let us recall that on August 16, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy at a meeting today recommended that the parliament adopt in the second reading and as a whole draft law No. 8371, which prohibits the activities of religious organizations affiliated with the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine.
