The Ukrainian sea corridor began operating a year ago.
Today, August 16, at a government meeting, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced the results of its functioning.
The Prime Minister stressed that from the first day of the invasion, the Russian invaders did everything to block Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea, in order to put pressure on the economy and allies of Ukraine, creating threats to global food security.
That is why one of the biggest victories for Ukraine last year was the opening of the Ukrainian Maritime Corridor, Shmyhal noted.
According to him, over the year of the corridor’s operation:
- More than 2.3 thousand ships entered the Black Sea ports of Ukraine;
- cargo turnover amounted to more than 64 million tons;
- Almost 44 million tons of grain were exported from Ukraine.
All this had a positive impact on various sectors of our economy and on the economy as a whole. Ukrainian exporters increased the physical volumes of sales of their goods by 35% in the first half of 2024. We have reached pre-war export figures, Shmyhal emphasized.
