The remaining units in Russia were conscripts who could resist the advance of Ukrainian forces.
Russia is still trying to formulate a reaction to Ukraine’s operation in the Kursk region, so far this reaction is slow and scattered. This is what the Supreme Allied Commander of NATO in Europe, General Christopher Cavoli, said on Thursday, August 15, during the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), writes the Voice of America.
According to Cavoli, Russia’s reaction is due to several factors. First, there is a lack of understanding of who should be responsible for military operations within the Russian Federation, and second, the lack of troops that Russia can deploy in the Kursk region.
“Right now it’s a relatively slow response. Part of it is because Russia doesn’t understand who is responsible for military actions inside Russia,” Cavoli said.
Cavoli said the remaining units in Russia that could fight Ukrainian forces are conscripts, who are theoretically and legally prohibited from fighting in Ukraine.
“Accordingly, we are not talking about combat units where a quick reaction can be expected,” said a NATO spokesman.
NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe emphasized that the Russian authorities have deployed several air forces in the Kursk region, but it is not known how many ground forces will be involved and what effect this will have.
Cavoli added that he was amazed by the innovation that Ukraine has shown in military, technical and tactical terms.
Ukrposhta is ready to open a branch in the Ukrainian-controlled city of Sudzha, Kursk region of the Russian Federation, if it receives instructions from the headquarters for work in the liberated territories under the Cabinet of Ministers.
