Russia moved troops from positions in the occupied territory of Ukraine south to the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.

Putin is concerned about the situation in the Kursk region and is looking for ways to counter Ukrainian advances in the north. At the same time, he is not ready to use nuclear weapons. White House National Security Communications Adviser John Kirby said this on Thursday, August 15, in a conversation with reporters, Voice of America wrote.

“If he’s moving troops there, then he’s concerned about what’s going on, I don’t know if it qualifies as desperation or not, but he’s definitely responding to what’s happening in the Kursk region without seeing or heard any escalatory rhetoric, especially on nuclear weapons in recent days,” Kirby said.

He added that now there is no reason for the United States to change its calculations or strategic deterrence posture on nuclear threats.
