Ukraine, which has signed the agreement on security guarantees, hopes that the largest NATO member state will become its participants. This was announced on Saturday, April 2, by the head of the Ukrainian delegation in talks with the Russian Federation on achieving peace, David Arakhamia.
“We want to make our own NATO, and it is important for us that the largest and most effective NATO countries provide support in case of aggression. Turkey is very important to us, it is the largest NATO army in Europe. The United States and Great Britain are also important, “said the people’s representative.
Arahamia shared his opinion that the United States and Britain would be one of the last guarantees of Ukraine’s security – when they saw no one objecting. At the same time, he stressed that Kyiv has the lowest package of guarantor countries, without it “we will not move.”
Further, the head of the delegation said that once the agreement on security guarantees is signed, the next task will be to amend the Constitution of Ukraine regarding non-bloc neutral status. But the decision of this issue will remain with the Ukrainian citizens through a referendum.
“It was very important for us, and we first insisted on it. The Russian side actively opposed this standard, but eventually they agreed that it was the only way out of the situation,” the people’s representative said.
Finally, Arahamia said that Ukraine will not sign a document in which the Russian Federation will have the right to veto a decision with its own voice.
“For us, this is certainly unacceptable. In general, then there is no need to discuss any security guarantees, because the Russian Federation will be able to block them at any moment,” he explained.
Recall that the two NATO member countries have already supported measures to guarantee the security of Ukraine on the concept voiced by Kyiv – Germany and Turkey.
